The BYU Cougars football program has made a significant move in their 2027 recruiting class by securing a commitment from Demichael Burks, a defensive back from Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas. This announcement comes after a quiet period on the recruiting trail for the Cougars. Burks, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs around 160 pounds, was previously committed to Fresno State before deciding to join BYU. His commitment adds depth to the Cougars' defense as they prepare for future seasons in the Big 12 Conference. Burks had received a scholarship offer from BYU back in April, marking it as his only Power Four offer, although he has attracted interest from several other schools at different levels. With this commitment, Burks becomes the sixth high school prospect to join the Cougars' 2027 recruiting class, and he is the second cornerback to commit, alongside Ryan Wooten from New Jersey. Additionally, he is the second player from the Las Vegas area to commit, joining running back Ezra Sanelivi. This recruitment highlights BYU's ongoing efforts to strengthen their roster and compete effectively in the upcoming seasons.
